Fine Arts Friday: Crisp Fall Day

We’re spending the day at the Dallas Arboretum looking at their houses o’ gourds.

We also may do this great fall mixed-media art project from That Artist Woman. I’ve saved my egg shells and everything.

It’s a new month so new songs. Our folk song is an Irish tune called “The Rose of Tralee.” I found a version with Bing Crosby. I love Bing.

Lyrics:

The pale moon was rising above the green mountain
The sun was declining beneath the blue sea
When I strayed with my love to the pure crystal fountain
That stands in beautiful vale of Tralee.
She was lovely and fair as the rose of the summer

The cool shades of evening their mantle were spreading
And Mary all smiling was listening to me

When I won the heart of the Rose of Tralee.
Though lovely and fair as the rose of the summer
Yet, 'twas not her beauty alone that won me

That made me love Mary, the Rose of Tralee.

The hymn is O Worship the King (free sheet music at that link.)  I love the phrase “pavilioned in splendor.” Here’s a new version by Chris Tomlin that’s pretty good. Plus it has lyrics, which is nice.

What do you think? Traditionally hymns as written or modern updates? I don’t mind the updates if they’re true to the original and don’t gut the rich lyrics and replace them with 7 words sung 11 times.

Have a great first day of November!

The egg shell thing seems interesting. I have a shoe bench I just got from my sister and I am thinking of painting it with a fall scene. We’ll see if I get motivated. I got closets cleaned but my laundry room is still a mess.

We did cross bookmarks with the same technique. Yeah, art projects tend to take last place on the to-do list.
