Title: Joni: An Unforgettable Story
Author: Joni Eareckson Tada
What’s it about: The autobiography of a woman who became a quadriplegic at 17, focusing on her faith journey.
Why did I read it: This is the second book in the book project I’m doing with my girls. I’m going to add a healthy dose of biographies into the mix. I read this book as a teen, and found it inspiring. I hope it will be doing the same for my daughters. Joni is very open about her emotions, struggles, and sins. Even though her situation is unique, her struggles are universal.
Favorite idea: “But I’ve found that God never places any real emphasis on the present — except as preparation for the future. We only have a limited sense of reality. This doesn’t mean I’m preoccupied with heaven and the hereafter. It just helps me put things into perspective. . . The only thing we can take to heaven with us is our character. Our character is all we have to determine what kind of being we will be for all eternity. It’s what we are that will be tested by fire. Only the qualities of Christ in our character will remain.” (So that’s two ideas. Sue me.)
Where can I buy it: Here! (af)
